Abstract
The relationship between the sense of unintegration of thoughts, recurrent thinking, and avoidance behavior that are considered to be factors in maintaining anger was investigated. High school students (n=324) were asked to write about anger episodes that they had experienced a week or more before. Next, the students completed a questionnaire assessing the current sense of unintegration of thoughts and those just after the episode; current recurrent thinking; avoidance behavior after the episode; and the current degree of anger. The results of covariance structure analysis indicated that the sense of unintegration of thoughts just after the episode maintained anger through recurrent thinking. Recurrent thinking also intensified the current sense of unintegration of thoughts, which directly maintained anger. However, the sense of unintegration of thoughts just after the episode did not lead to an increase in avoidance behavior, and avoidance behavior did not relate to recurrent thinking.
