Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate time perspective in middle-age using Circles Test as projective measurement device of time perspective. In the first Study, 181 middle-aged people took Circles test and answered the questionnaire of Experiential Time Perspective Scale and Mental Health Scale. The results are as follows: in middle-age, the most frequent response in size was that the circle representing the present was the biggest of three time zone circles. Those who made present or future dominant over past showed a positive attitude to the present or future, and were in good mental health. In the relationships of circles, middle-aged people showed a tendency to make the past time zone circle and the present one overlap, and the present one and the future one overlap. In addition, those who drew overlapping circles showed the positive attitude to the present or future. In the second Study, 22 middle-aged people answered questions about their Circle Test in interview research. The results indicated that those who drew a big present or future time zone circle hoped the growth of their mind in the present and future, and those who drew overlapping circles had consciousness regarding the formation of self.
