Abstract
The purpose of the present study was to examine the effectiveness of providing information based on mental health literacy and help-seeking behavior. In the first study, 261 university students evaluated items regarding events relating to consultation behavior in psychiatry. "General concern" and "Resource of support" were extracted by factor analysis. In the second study, the effectiveness of providing information was confirmed. One hundred fifteen university students were randomly assigned to a control condition ("depression symptoms and treatments", 29 students) and three experimental conditions ("Relieving concern", 28 students; "Resource of Support", 26 students; all information, 32 students). After providing the information, intention of seeking psychiatry care became higher in the "Resource of Support" condition than control condition. The findings showed that for promotion of intension of seeking psychiatric care it is necessary not only to provide information about mental health but also to help gather information.
