The purpose of the present study was to verify the reliability and validity of the Hokkaido Social Skills Scale (HSSI), which measures social skills according to grade and school level of students. The survey was conducted on 4,477 children and adolescents from the first grades to the twelfth grades, then its structural validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, measurement error, inter-rater reliability, construct validity, predictive validity, and responsiveness were evaluated according to the COSMIN checklist. As a result, the HSSI generally met the criteria set as a hypothesis in advance. Therefore, it was suggested that the HSSI has adequate reliability and validity. The characteristics of the HSSI and its applicability in social skills intervention were suggested , and future issues based on the limitations of this study were discussed.
