The Daily Needs and Difficulties of Tandem Bicycles Use for the Mobility Handicapped

Abstract

Tandem bicycles can be used for daily transportation of the mobility handicapped. These bicycles have more than two saddles and sets of pedals. The visually disabled, the intellectually disables or some of the elderly who cannot cycle by themselves can ride on a rear seat. The purpose of this paper is to obtain knowledge to use tandem bicycles for the mobility handicapped. The results of the questionnaire survey show the possibilities to expand the range of the disabilities and their needs to use tandem bicycles for their daily life, the difficulties of riding on public roads.
