Abstract
This research has two purposes. first, it is to grasp how many historic buildings in the urban areas is conserved by the Cultural Landscape protection system. Second, it is to know the change in the number of historic buildings before and after the selection to the landscape. We found that in Uji City, Beppu City and Gihu City, some historic buildings which had not been conserved by other systems had been conserved by the Cultural Landscape protection system. Also, as a result of field survey and interview survey to Uji City, some historic buildings subject to conservation had been lost after the selection of important cultural landscapes. We found that the cause is that the Cultural Landscape protection system is a notification system concerning change of the current state of the buildings and very expensive cost for repairing buildings.
