A study on historical townscape and its conservation　

- Focusing on Pontocho -

Abstract

　Pontocho is one of the historical townscape of Kyoto, but it is losing its historic townscape due to rebuilding. Therefore, in this study, we investigated ① the original design of original MACHIYA, and ② the conditions of recent change of townscape. In ①, we found type A, common in Kyoto, type B,C, which have second story facade in set back area. Type B,C are characteristic of this area to get more light in narrow street. In ②, we investigate buildings confirmed to be built since 1972, giving them marks. We proposed to designate this area for the third item of building code 43, which allow 2.7m road.
