Abstract

 This paper presents a feasibility study on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system for suburban area the Rakusai New Town area, Kyoto City. In the paper, examine the feasibility of the project through the following work. First, a draft of the maintenance route and operation plan was developed. Second, Second, operating expenses (initial and running costs) were measured based on the proposed route and the operation plan. Initial costs were measured based on a case study in Chuo-ku, Tokyo. Running costs were measured by calculating transportation expenses for the 27th year of the evaluation. The calculation was based on the transportation cost per kilometer (559.71 yen). Third, the paper measured the demand forecast and the revenue and expenditure based on the forecast. Although there are issues to be considered, the paper found that the routes presented this paper are likely to be profitable.
