Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine improvements to the safe use of escalators, implement them at stations, and test their effectiveness. Escalator accidents occur every year, and safe use of escalators is required. Since accidents are particularly common on public transportation, we believe it is important to implement measures on public transportation. For the analysis, data on 16 items were extracted from the Kobe City Subway escalator accident reports. The data tabulation revealed that accidents were more frequent in the 11:00-12:00 and 21:00-22:00 time slots, and that accidents were more frequent among persons aged 60 and over in all time slots. In addition, the data could be categorized into four groups, such as Accidents due to alcohol consumption occurred after 7:00 p.m. for those aged 30, 50, and 60 years old.
