Abstract
In this study, we would like to clarify the heritage registration efforts of modern and contemporary buildings in Europe and the heritage registration and conservation of modern and contemporary buildings in the Netherlands, and then discuss the current status and issues related to the conservation of modern and contemporary buildings, in order to provide suggestions for the registration of modern and contemporary buildings as cultural properties in Japan. As a result, we believe that at the national level in Europe, the understanding and heritage valorization of modern and contemporary buildings is more important than their conservation. In the case of Japan, it is necessary to expand the selection criteria for new and existing systems and to designate landscape protection areas, as in the case of the Dutch revival heritage.
