Deformities of the feet caused by rheumatoid arthritis(RA)often lead to issues such as ingrown toenails, thickened nails, and callus formation. These conditions can be painful and interfere not only with walking but also other aspects of daily life. Additionally, patients with RA may struggle to care for their feet because of limited joint mobility, impaired vision, and reduced grip strength. As a result, the importance of foot care for patients with RA is increasingly being recognized. With changes in the RA patient population—such as aging and the expanding range of treatment options—nurses play diverse roles within the multidisciplinary care team. Reflecting on our daily practice, we have come to recognize the significance of supporting not only the feet but also the patient’s overall life during recuperation. This includes fostering fulfilling self-care, listening to the patient’s story of recuperation and identifying needed support, and promoting collaboration and coordination with multiple professionals. We aim to continue providing support for patients living with RA, as well as their families, through dedicated foot care.
