Lateral outgrowths were induced by damage to the propodi of the crayfish, Procambarus clarkii. On some of the damaged propodi, a slightly projecting structure was formed at the site of the wound at the first molt after wounding. Such structures became larger at the next molt. Some of them were single and others were bifurcated structures. These structures formed a hook at each of the points on the branched structure, similar to that at the tip of a normal propodus.
