Alloeopagurodes spiniacicula, a new genus and new species of hermit crab (Decapoda: Anomura: Paguridae) from Japan

Abstract

A new genus and new species of pagurid hermit crab, Alloeopagurodes spiniacicula, is described from the Pacific coast of northeastern Honshu, Japan. The new genus appears close to Pagurodes Henderson, 1888, and Icelopagurus McLaughlin, 1997, but differs from all known pagurid genera in having the spinose antennal acicles and the presence of an assemblage of spines on the anterolateral portion of the posterior branchiostegite.
