Abstract
Smectite "crystals" synthesized previously by quenching hydrous melt at very high pressure and temperatures were sliced normal to their c-plane and analysed by ED and HRTEM. The observation of hkl reflections are the clear evidence that smectite is a usual crystal having a three-dimensional periodicity.
