Cytology of Cocos nucifera L. and Areca catechu L

Abstract

Meiosis in Trivandrum materials of Cocos nucifera and Areca catechu has been described. The haploid chromosome number in both the species is found to be the same (n=16).
The present study indicates need for careful karyotype analysis in both species to help in selecting suitable parents for hybridisation work.
