Abstract
Songs in musicals are typically sung out loud and clear, and their meanings are usually
easy to understand as they relate to the storyline. The repeating pattern of rhyming
words is a kind of wordplay, and as such is aesthetically appealing and pleasant to hear.
This article discusses how songs from Annie Get Your Gun, Oklahoma!, Oliver!, The
King & I, Grease, Cabaret, A Star is Born, Wizard of Oz, Easter Parade, Top Hat,
Singin’ in the Rain, On the Town, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like It Hot, The
Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dreamgirls, Gypsy, some Elvis Presley movies, Frozen,
Snow White, and other musicals, can be productively used in EFL (English as a Foreign
Language) classes especially by paying attention to rhymes and their spelling and
pronunciation.
