An investigation was made about the influence of mixing ratio upon corrosion and wear resistance of the steel ferritic by nitrocarburized using NH3 and CO gas. The underwritten results were experimentally obtained:
(1) Both properties of corrosion resistance and wear resistance depend remarkably on the NH3 and CO gas mixing ratio. Under the NH3 rich mixing ratio, the corrosion resistance is favorable and under CO rich mixing ratio, the wear resistance is also favorable.
(2) The 80% NH3-20% CO gas mixing ratio is the best for corrosion resistance; and the compound layer of which mixing ratio consisting of ε (Fe 2∼3 N) phase including C is applied includes no cementite at all.
(3) The 30% NH3-70% CO gas mixing ratio is the best for wear resistance, the hardness at compound layer with this mixing ratio shows the highest value.
