Effects of Mn and Ca addition on some properties of medium carbon Ni-Cr-Mo-V steel for the hot-forging die application were obtained.
The results obtained were:
(1) Mn gives very big influence on Bainite transformation while very little influence on Pearlite transformation.
From the machinability point of view the Mn content should preferably lower, but 0.5% is the minimum for the reasonable toughness.
(2) Ca has little influence on strength properties and was observed to widely improve machinability with the remarkable improvement for the Anorthite inclusions.
