Abstract

Twenty-four dental X-ray machines manufactured by nine manufacturers were investigated on a questionnaire method.
1) These machines have X-ray tube potential from 60 to 70 kVp.
2) None of the machines has the diameter of X-ray beam more than 8 cm at the tip of the cone.
3) The sizes of focal spots were 0.8×0.8mm in all cases.
4) The target-skin distances were from 15 cm to 20 cm. Only one machine was converted with 30 cm long cone.
5) The filtrations were adequate.
6) Only two manufacturer's machines were fitted on Kikuchi's requirments for tube head movement.
7) Several problems to be solved in future were discussed.
