Abstract

Some small dental instruments such as hand piece can not be sterilized with steam, and the complete sterilizing method for them has not been established. However, such instruments as cannot be sterilized by heat may be sufficiently sterilized by means of radiation, and thus, utilization of radiation sterilization in the dental clinic was studied. Results
1. It was found out that the dose necessary for sterilization was 2.5 MR.
2. When exposing to radiation of 20 MR, an engine oil for hand piece used in the, dental clinic could be satisfactorily used in the clinic, though the viscosity was slightly changed.
3. It was found out that rubber dam sheet sterilized with radiation could be used in the clinic.
Consequently, radiation sterilization may be employed for a wide range of small dental instruments.
