In this study in our dermatology department, we identified the antigens present and summarized the clinical characteristics of 10 patients who experienced red meat allergies.
The patients' data, including medical history, pet breeding history, tick bite history, and place of residence, and clinical symptoms were obtained via detailed interview. Prick test and immunological serum analyses, using serum-specific IgE test and Western blotting, were also performed. The results showed that 7 of the 10 patients were allergic to red meat with galactose-α-1, 3-galactose as the antigen, two had pork-cat syndrome following sensitization by hamster or cat fur, and one had collagen as the antigen; this was a rare case triggered by red meat as well as chicken and fish.
