Abstract
While there are times when players see NPC as very close friends, there are also times when treating them as mere objects in a game system. This study tries to depict how real these fictional NPCs would appear in players’ minds depending on changes in players’ recognition towards NPCs. Regard to the study method, I analyzed the players’ utterance while their playing games by using Constructivist GTA and drew a structural map that shows how their recognitions change. As a result, I have found out 4 core categories, consisting of 3 recognition forms "as person", "as character", "as system" and 1 affecting element "natural or unnatural". I also knew that an image of NPC, such as "image as person", "image as character", "image as system" was built up in each recognition form. This is an interim report of my master degree study which is still under examination and analysis. I intend to enrich the content with more data and accomplish this study.
