Abstract
Purpose: Developing a competency scale for advanced practice nurses required to provide primary care at home in large metropolitan areas in Japan, and verifying the reliability and validity of the scale.
Method: We conducted a questionnaire survey on the competencies required from advanced practice nurses. This survey was conducted on doctors or nurses working in the clinics and/or hospitals, home-visit nurses, and nurses working in facilities for the elderly involved in home-visit medical care and home visits in large metropolitan areas.
Results: Responses received 309 people were analyzed. 46 items of 6 factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis through maximum likelihood method and promax rotation. As a result of checking the reliability and validity of the scale, Cronbach's α coefficient was .964, and the model goodness of fit was GFI=.759, AGFI=.732, CFI=.875, and RMSEA=.060.
Conclusion: The reliability and validity of this scale is statistically acceptable, and it suggested that each of the 46 items of 6 factors can appropriately reflect the concept and characteristics as a competency measure for advanced practice nurses who contribute to primary care.
