The formation and the on-line interactive retrieval of a bibliographic data base, called Referral File, for newly acquired foreign books at the university of Tokyo library are described. Bibliographic data for each book such as the registry number, the classification code, author names, the title and the location code are taken from an internal document (acquisition detail sheet) prepared at the time of book acquisition. Users can search and display relevant data specifying the above items in retrieval commands. The university of <TO>___kyo O___n-L___ine I___nformation Retrieval (TOOL-IR) system has been modified for the system. Currently, bibliographic data for about 1500 books, part of the 1975 acquisition, are in the data base.
