Design of input format of serial bibliographic information, utilizing UNIMARC

Abstract

Kyoto Sangyo University Library has began to computerize its services since 1968. However, its serial control system has not been developed yet. Recently the Library completed its system design and program by test data. In Japan serial control systems have been developed by several institutions, but their formats are not those which can be used as exchange format of bibliographic information. Kyoto Sangyo University Library has tried to design a standard format, utilizing UNIMARC, which can be used as a communication format. It is stated why and how the Library designed the format and how to process the input data.
