Abstract
An example of the small in-house library automation using a personal computer is introduced. The system uses a Kanji (Chinese character)-available personal computer (PANAFACOM C-180 DK), and stores about 4,000 books and 80 titles of magazine bibliographic data into the 5 mega-byte built-in fixed disk memory. The system opens the lending and searching functions to the users. The computer response time is about 5 seconds for lending and minimum 10 seconds for searching, which are enough for practical use. The computer operation by the user has replaced the conventional lending procedure by lending cards and searching procedure by catalogue cards, and the replacement has been favorably accepted by users. Librarian's works have also been efficiently improved.
