Abstract

Unesco published the Terminology of Documentation (TD) compiled by G. Wersig and U. Neveling in 1976. In 1981, the standardization Committee of the Japan Documentation Society established the Terminology Subcommittee in order to translate it into Japanese and investigate the terminology. Several chapters of TD were translated into Japanese and the authors analysed conceptual relationships, illustrated term maps, and discussed some problems. The paper was divided into five parts and appeared in this journal as follows : Part 1 : Introduction to the terminology and activity of the Terminology Subcommittee (Vol. 31, No.9 : pp.368-374 1981), Part 2 : Chapter 5, Organizations and professions in information and documentation (Vol. 31,No.10 : pp.410-413, 1981), Part 3 : Chapter 2, Documents (Vol. 32, No.5 : pp.231-239, 1982), Part 4 : Chapter 3, Main activities in the field of information and documentation and Chapter 314, Abstracting and information services (Vol. 32, No.10 : pp.485-492, 1982), and Part 5 : Chapter 11, Sciences related to information and documentation, Chapter 17, Communication and information theory, and afterwords.
