The paper proposed a simple technique using statistical color matching to identify the stain or mark on the object at accident scene. The whole process includes scanning the photos to obtain digital images, retrieving RGB color values of the pixels sampled on the stain, converting them to HSI values, and establishing the hypothesis testing on the difference of color parameters means. A case study was conducted to identify whether stain or contaminant on a motorcycle in accident-scene photos was the bloodstain. Test results show no difference in color hue but significant distinction in saturation between the two assuming that alpha value is 0.00001. We have not sufficient evidence to support that the suspect stain is bloodstain. Obviously, the color matching technique can be used to facilitate the visual examination to identify the belonging of the stains.
