Abstract

Fundamental objectives of this article is to compare and to assess the investment alternatives for upgrading public transportation infrastructure of Ulaanbaatar in general. The following objectives are determined in order to make the investment alternative comparisons: (i) to determine the current situation of the public transport ridership (ii) to determine traffic demand (iii) to compare and to assess the proposed proposals for the investment alternatives for modernizing public transport infrastructure system of Ulaanbaatar. Based on Based on the current situation and future development of the system, tram should be the best option for modernizing public transportation in Ulaanbaatar's main area. The Light Rail Transit system could be better appropriate for connecting satellite cities and distant districts with Ulaanbaatar's center.
