Abstract
Effect of methyl jasmonate (Me-JA) added to modified MS medium on organogenesis in shoot cultures of epiphytic and terrestrialCymbidiumspecies was examined. Protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) were formed from shoot cultures ofCymbidium eburneum (epiphytic species) . The addition of Me-JA at concentrations below 1μM effectively increased the number of PLBs from shoot cultures. A high concentration (10μM) of Me-JA had little effect on the proliferation of PLB. Rhizome branches were formed from shoot cultures ofCymbidiumkanranMakino (terrestrial species) and the largest number of rhizomes were developed at 1μM Me-JA. Addition of Me-JA to culture medium inhibited the shoot development from explants.
