To investigate the influence of providing information on groundwater survey methods on people’s thinking about groundwater conservation, a mail survey was conducted among the residents of Oshino Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. The respondents were randomly divided into two groups: one group was given a detailed explanation of the groundwater survey methods, and the other was given only a brief explanation. On average, this information treatment did not directly influence the necessity of groundwater investigation in the village. However, the necessity of groundwater investigation was positively correlated with the level of understanding of the provided information and the perceived seriousness of the groundwater problem. Furthermore, the levels of information understanding, and perceived seriousness depended on the information treatment in the Uchino area, where people had less knowledge of groundwater. Then the information treatment indirectly affected the need for groundwater investigation in this area.
