Optical measurement systems were constructed to investigate the magneto-optical (MO) effect and the piezoelectric-optical (PO) effect. The reflection PO effect of a lithium niobate (LiNbO3) single crystal was affected by the inverse piezoelectric effect. The inverse piezoelectric effect was reduced in a sputtered LiNbO3 film. The signal intensity of the PO effect of a LiNbO3 film was of the same order (0.01%) as that of the transverse MO Kerr effect of a spin-coated nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) film.
