A novel namatic tolan with two 3-butenyl terminal groups has been sysnthsized and the electro-optical properties for STN-LCD have been measured. The novel namatic tolan has low viscosity and good steepness. The LC mixtures for STN-LCD with fast response time at low temperature were achieved using the novel namatic tolan.
