The three-dimensional display using a field-sequential light direction control back light

Abstract

We newly propose a three-dimensional display which does not require any special glasses to observer. In this method, the light from a back-light is controlled in the required direction, and different images are displayed according to each direction. An observer is provided with three-dimensional images by changing the light direction and parallax image on liquid crystal display (LCD) sequentialy. The high resolution can be obtained because the resolution of the displayed images is equal to that of LCD. In this presentation, principle of the display, design condition and property of the light source are described.
