FLCDs Fabricated by Photoalignment and Their Characteristics

Abstract

Defect free FLCDs with C-1 uniform state have been sueeessfully fabricated by photoalignment using polyimide films as alignment Payers. The result is mterpreted by developing a phenomenologfcal theory It is theoretically shown that the weak azimuthal aehoring energy ranging in the region of 10 ^GJ/m^2 attributes to the appearance of C-1 uniform state rather than C-2 uniform state; the agreement between theory. and experiment is fairly well.
