Frustrated Smectic Liquid Crystal Originated by the Microphase Separation of Fiuorinated carbon and Hydrocarbon Chains

Abstract

We have designed new types of liquid crystal microemulsions phases in the mixture of the partially fiuorinated liquid crystal molecules and the hydrocarbon liquid crystal molecules for the first time. Microphase separation between the fluorocarbon and hydrocarbon liquid crystal are homogenously embedded in the original liquid crystal order. Frustrated smectic phase is induced by the disorder effect of the microphase separation structure.
