Abstract
We synthesised a new amphiphilic material which was composed of the liquid crystal part as a hydrophobic and the sugar part as a hydrophilic. We investigated the lyotropic liquid crystalline properties of the trinary mixture, namely BLT sandwich liquid crystal, which was made up this amphiphile, TEG and PAA. As a result, equivalent mixture of amphiphile + TEG and PAA in weight was found to form a novel TGB phase in which the helical axis was propagating along the lamella plane and the nematic-ordered molecules were aligning perpendicular to both the preferred axis and the layer normal.
