Abstract
Liquid crystal materials with features of coexistence of high birefringence and low rotational viscosity were developed, by introducing novel class of tolane substance. Those LC mixtures exhibit excellent physical properties, and improve the TN mode display performances significantly. Those LC mixtures had very short switching time at room temperature, 20℃, with thin cell gap TN LCDs. The extremely fast switching characteristics enable TN LC panels to be applicable to field sequential color displays.
