Abstract
A pulsed-field-gradient NMR method using the quadrupole coil enables measurement of anisotropic self-diffusion coefficients of liquid crystal. On the other hand, substitution of terminal group of liquid crystal changes the physical character of liquid crystal, such as a phase transition, molecule dynamics, or molecule structure. The effect which the polar substituent on the aromatic ring exerted on molecular dynamics was investigated, by measuring self-diffusion coefficients of XBOOA and OBBX.
