Abstract
Depending on the molar fraction in some components, FLC-mixtures with a broad variety of pitch length, covering the whole optical region, can be created. The tempareture range for the SmC^* phase can be very broad. In the SmC^* phase, helical pitch can be tunable by tempareture, and selective reflection can be seen in the visible light range. Dielectric properties such as dielectric sterength and relaxation frequency have been studied using FLCs having a variety of helical pitch. Optical emission charasteristics investigated after excitation of dye doped ferroelectric liquid crystal from the third harmonic of a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser.
