Abstract
Anisotropically ion-conductive polymer films have been obtained by photopolymerization of the complexes of LC monomer and lithium salts forming homeotropically aligned smectic phases. The LC monomer consists of a mesogenic core and an oligo (ethylene) unit. Ionic species can be transported more efficiently along with parallel to the smectic layer than with perpendicular to the layer. The preservation of the ordered structures was confirmed by polarized micrographs, scanning electron micrographs, and X-ray diffraction patterns.
