PA01 Observation of the Critical Phenomena in Freedericksz Transition by Photon Correlation Spectroscopy

Abstract

Orientational fluctuations were studied near the Freedericksz transition by photon correlation spectroscopy. We used a nematic liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy, which undergoes the Fredericksz transition under an electric field. Below the transition point we found a soft mode, while above it one phase mode (Goldstone mode) and one amplitude mode.
