PB12 The molecular structure and phase behaviour of the novel dimeric liquid-crystalline molecule

Abstract

A novel U-shaped dimeric liquid-crystals derived from catechol have been prepared and the transition behaviour studied by means of optical microscopy and DSC. We have found unusual hysteresis in thermal behaviour of the U-shaped dimeric system. Property - structure correlations have been presented. Furthermore binary mixtures have been prepared between an optically active liquid crystal and a novel U-shaped liquid crystal and physical properties investigated.
