抄録

New troponoid liquid crystals with a bitropone core were prepared. The alkoxybenzoate derivatives had enantiotropic smectic A and C phases with higher thermal stabilities than the corresponding benzenoid derivative, which had nematic and smectic phases. While troponoid hexacatenar compounds had an enantiotropic hexagonal columnar phase, the corresponding benzenoid derivatives were not mesomorphic.
