Abstract
We have succeeded to synthesize phthalocyanine derivatives substituted by 6 phenoxy groups and a norbornene group at a terminal end of the long chain. Very interestingly, spontaneous perfect homeotropic alignment could be achieved for the novel derivatives at both the higher temperatures and room temperature. Polymerization of the thin film on a glass plate was carried out at the higher temperature region showing homeotropic alignment. As a result, the polymer film showing perfect homeotropic alignment could be successfully obtained at room temperature.
