Abstract
Influence of spontaneous polarization on active driving of V-shaped switching ferroelectric liquid crystal is discussed. A FET uses as active switch and storage capacitor is set parallel to liquid crystal cell. In high spontaneous polarization material, cell voltage increases while transistor is in on state. After application of external driving voltage, cell voltage decreases due to discharging of storage capacitor by changes induced by spontaneous polarization. On the other hand, in low spontaneous polarization material, decrease of cell voltage after application of external driving voltage was very small. From the view point of controlling light intensity by active driving, low spontaneous polarization material has advantage of high spontaneous polarization material.
