1C19 Fabrication and Characteristics of Polymer-Stabilized V-mode FLCDs

Abstract

We have succeeded in fabricating a novel defect-free polymer-stabilized V-mode (PS-V-) FLCD showing symmetrical thresholdless electro-optic characteristics. The polymer-stabilization is performed at chiral SmC phase while applying external electric AC field across the LC cell. We particularly devised this photo-curing process. This novel device shows a high contrast ratio over than 700 : 1 and a fast response time through about τ=400 μs.
