Recently, photonic crystals with lattice parameters comparable to the wavelength of light have attracted much attention because of their unique optical properties. For practical applications, it is important to have the capability of tuning the photonic band structures. We have reported photo-switchable photonic crystals by using of photo-induced phase transition of liquid crystals. In order to investigate the detail mechanism of the change of optical properties, time-resolved measurements of transmittance were carried out.
