High resolution heat capacity measurements have been carried out to investigate the Sm-A-Sm-Cα*-Sm-C* phase transitions of 11OHFBBB1M7 and 11OTBBB1M7. The Sm-Cα*-Sm-C* phase transition was found to be weakly first order for both cases. The behaviors of excess heat capacity around the Sm-A-Sm-Cα* transition are similar to those in MHPOBC-group liquid crystals.
