PB01 Synthesis and Mesomorphic Properties of 1, 7-Di (5-alkoxytropon-2-yl) diethylenetriamines

Abstract

Recently we have reported the mesomorphic properties of piperazine (SmC phase), 1, 5, 9-triazacyclododecane (Cub phase), and diazacrown derivatives (not mesomorphic) having 5-alkoxytropon-2-yl groups. In order to elucidate the role of azamacrocycles in the mesophases, new troponoid liquid crystals with an acyclic ionophore such as tris (2-aminoethyl) amine, 1,5-diaminopentane, bis (2-aminoethyl) ether, 1, 7-diethylenetriamine, and N- (3-aminopropyl) -1, 3-propane were synthesized. All acyclic compounds had a smectic A phase.
